Description

Artisan Lotus-Scented Yellow Tea

Great tea is a testament to its ecosystem. This tea is crafted from the leaves of ancient "Old Sichuan Tea" bushes, grown high in the mountains of Ya'an, Sichuan, at over 1,000 meters. The base is a premium Huang Xiao Cha (Yellow Small Tea), which is then scentedly infused with the fresh, whole blossoms of the lotus flower.

As documented in Li Shizhen's Compendium of Materia Medica, every part of the lotus plant is a treasure—from the flower and seed to the root—each possessing medicinal properties.

Thus, this Lotus Yellow Tea offers not just a unique taste but also natural benefits: it may help clear summer heat, dispel dampness, sharpen the mind, and calm the spirit.
【 The Scenting Process 】
Fresh lotus flowers are harvested. The yellow tea is carefully bundled within the petals, allowing the leaves to fully absorb the complex fragrance—a harmony of the blossom, stamens, and lotus seedpod.

After the scenting process, the tea is shaken out from the flowers, gently dried over charcoal fire, and meticulously sorted to remove any residual floral parts. This intricate method fuses the tea with the lotus's fresh aroma, complemented by the subtle, bitter-sweet scent of the lotus seed and a hint of almond, creating a sophisticated and delightful bouquet.
The liquor is sweet, smooth, and moistening, with a refreshing coolness that lingers, promoting a lasting, salivating sensation.

【 Tea Profile 】
The yellow tea base is processed through multiple traditional "men huang" (smothering) techniques. While still warm and moist, the tea is piled and covered, encouraging non-enzymatic oxidation that gently transforms the stimulating polyphenols. This process increases free amino acids and sugars in the infusion, resulting in a silky-smooth cup with a milder character and warm, cereal-like sweetness.

Suitable for aging, this tea will become even smoother over the years, developing uniquely complex flavors.

The base for this Lotus Yellow Tea is Huang Xiao Cha, primarily comprising one bud and two leaves. It undergoes three traditional smothering cycles, yielding dry leaves that are yellowish-brown, a liquor the color of apricot, and a soft, yellow brewed leaf.

【 Brewing Guide 】
Hot Brewing:

Cup Method: Use 1.5g of tea in a standard mug. Brew with 85°C water. Refill when about a quarter of the tea remains.

Gaiwan/Teapot Method: Use 4g of tea for a 130ml vessel. Brew with 95°C water. No need to rinse the leaves. First infusion: ~15 seconds. Gradually increase steeping time for subsequent brews to maintain a clear, apricot-yellow liquor.

🧊 Cold Brewing: Use a ratio of 1g tea to 250ml room temperature purified water. Steep in the refrigerator overnight (8-10 hours).
